Teething for a child can be very painful for the infant and the adults. What are you supposed to do when they sprout their first tooth? This is an indication that they are ready to begin some solid foods, practice dental care, and sleep without the bottle.

Begin Some Solid Foods

According toColgate, once your baby begins teething, you can introduce solid foods into their diet. Unsweetened cold foods like applesauce, yogurt, and baby foods will offer comfort and nutrition during teething. Strained foods, small pieces of cooked veggies, and tiny bites of protein are also important to introduce once your child learns how to use their chompers. Make sure all the food that you introduce is easy for them to eat with their hands and small enough for them to swallow without too much effort.

Practice Dental Care

Once the first tooth appears, it is wise to implement dental care. Consistent dental care will protect the health of your child and establish good habits. Brush your child’s mouth twice a day with just a tiny smear of fluoride, edible, toothpaste. According toMaccaro Pediatric Dentistry, you should take your child to the dentist six months after their first tooth comes in. This will let the dentist check to make sure all teeth are developing normally and your child to familiarize themselves with the process. Practicing good dental care early on will promote the health of your child from an early age.

Don’t Put Them In Bed With A Bottle

Once your child has started teething, it is important to take away their bottle when they go to bed. According toKidsHealth, the sugars from juice, formula, or milk can stay on the baby’s teeth for hours and eat at the enamel. Even babies can get tooth decay. In this case, they call it “bottle mouth” or “baby bottle tooth decay”. When the enamel on the tooth decays, the teeth can become discolored, pocked, and form cavities. Switching your child from a bottle to a sippy cup will also help prevent liquid from pooling around your child’s teeth.

Creating healthy habits for your child starts at a young age. Regularly cleaning your child’s mouth and gums is important for developing strong teeth and healthy gums. When your child gets their first tooth, it is important to introduce some solid foods into their diet, practice good dental care, and avoid letting them sleep with a bottle.
